FAQs

Got questions? We’ve got answers.

Fees and Funding

  • Can I pay hourly for childcare?

Unfortunately, we do not have an hourly rate due to offering only School Day sessions or Half Day sessions.

  • How do I claim funding?

Parents who are eligible for the 30 hours free childcare scheme can apply through the government website. You will need to create or use your existing Government Gateway account to check your eligibility and receive a unique 30-hour code. Once you have your code, please provide it to us so we can apply the funding to your child’s sessions.

For more information and to apply, visit: https://www.gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare

  • Why do I need to pay a deposit?

The deposit is required to reserve your child’s place at our Pre-School. It helps us plan effectively, ensuring we have the right staff, resources, and space available for your child from their first day. The deposit is fully credited to your first month’s invoice, giving you peace of mind that your child’s place is guaranteed.

  • What is Tax Free Childcare?

Tax-Free Childcare is a government scheme that helps families with the cost of childcare. For every £8 you pay into your Tax-Free Childcare account, the government adds an extra £2, up to a maximum amount each year. You can use the funds to pay for eligible childcare, including preschool sessions, nursery, or after-school clubs.

Starting Nursery

  • What do we need to bring to Nursery?

A spare changes of clothes, nappies and wipes (if applicable), a comforter if needed. Depending on the weather and season in the winter; hat, gloves, scarf, welly boots. In the summer months; sunhat and sun cream with your child's name on.

  • Does my child have to attend for a minimum amount of sessions?

For continuity and benefit for your child, we recommend that children attend twice per week.

  • Does you cater for individuals with allergies, preferences and medical conditions?

This information will be requested on your child's starter forms, with this we will provide healthy balanced nutritious snacks at Pre-school that are catered to their  needs.

  • What clothes do I send my child in?

We always recommend that you send your child in old clothes you don't mind getting dirty or we do have a uniform you can purchase, just ask one of the management team.

  • Do you offer settling in sessions?

Once your child’s place is confirmed, Rachelle, our owner, will personally get in touch to arrange settling-in sessions. These sessions take place during your child’s usual days and hours and are tailored to their needs, lasting anywhere from an hour to a full day. This approach helps your child feel comfortable, confident, and supported as they begin their journey with us.  To help children settle confidently into preschool life, we kindly ask that parents do not attend their child’s settling-in sessions. This allows your little one the space to build strong bonds with their Key Person and our staff team from the very beginning. We’ve found that children often settle more quickly and securely when they are given the chance to explore and connect independently, knowing that you will be back to hear all about their day.

  • What does it mean when you say you follow the Curiosity Approach?

Our sister setting in Charing is Curiosity Approach™ accredited this means that our setting has been recognised for creating a learning environment where children are guided by their natural curiosity. This approach focuses on encouraging questions, exploring ideas, and discovering new things in a supportive and engaging way.

Rather than just following a strict curriculum, we listen to each child’s interests, provide meaningful challenges, and nurture a love of learning. Accreditation shows that our practioners are trained to use curiosity as a central tool for learning and development, helping children think critically, explore safely, and develop confidence in their abilities.

It's a stamp of quality that assures parents that we prioritise curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning in everything we do.

Although Challock Pre-School is not accredited, we follow this apporach very closely as our staff work between both settings.
